Heritage Rail Trail

York Pa. through New Freedom to Freeland Maryland

*

Review:

     The length of this trail from York city to Freeland Maryland is approximately 22 miles. We gave this trail a Family Friendly Rating of 8 because of the types of surfaces and less than a 2% grade on the trail.

     Most of this trail we would say is excellent for all riders in moderate to good physical shape and it has a gradual incline from York city to its high point at New Freedom.

     There are at least six places, which we know of, that have either bathrooms or Porta Potties.

*

Trail Surface(s):

     The entire length of this trail is mostly hard packed crushed stone.

*

Scenery:

     The scenery for this trail is mostly wooded and goes through an old train tunnel. There is also a Museum at Hanover Junction and New Freedom.
